How to Boost Visitor Flow for Urban Parks

Nowadays, many urban parks in cities are trapped in a persistent operational dilemma. Most operators mistakenly equate the total foot traffic inside the park with potential commercial consumption, only to find that the actual conversion rate of visitors to paying customers is far lower than that of traditional commercial districts. A large number of visitors come to the park for casual walks, morning exercises or dog walking, with no pre-planned consumption intentions at all, while high ticket prices further block families with children, young groups and casual tourists who are most willing to spend on experience projects. As a result, the park often sees crowded green spaces but deserted commercial areas, and the revenue from supporting facilities is far from enough to cover the daily maintenance cost of the public space.

A series of low-threshold mass activities and multi-channel promotion strategies can further amplify the attraction of the park. The park can hold simple and interesting mass competitions, such as inflatable bumper ball football matches, which are low in difficulty and full of fun, allowing ordinary visitors to participate without professional training. Inviting local artists to hold open-air singing performances on the lawn can instantly ignite the atmosphere of the park and create a lively social scene that spreads rapidly on social media. For offline promotion, several large trucks can be arranged to travel around the whole city, with advertising banners hanging on the car body and loudspeakers playing the park’s latest event information, which can quickly cover the surrounding communities and attract the attention of groups that do not pay attention to online information. At the same time, the park can take the initiative to invite local TV stations, radio stations and portal websites to interview the upcoming competitions and activities, so as to obtain free media exposure and greatly expand the influence of the park.

In terms of business operation, the park can introduce sponsors to jointly hold large-scale competitions, and the sponsors will also bring their own promotion resources to help attract more participants. Appropriately relaxing the access conditions for mobile vendors to operate in the designated area of the park can create a lively and prosperous market scene, which will further enhance the willingness of visitors to stay and consume. In addition, establishing in-depth cooperation with travel agencies and giving them a certain commission for each group of tourists brought in can open up a stable source of out-of-town tourists for the park.

In the end, the core of the park’s passenger flow expansion never lies in rigid rules and conservative operation logic. Only by keeping an open and active mind, continuously trying new activity forms and promotion methods, and breaking the traditional positioning of the park as a single green space, can we continuously explore more new ways to expand passenger flow and turn the urban public park into a vibrant entertainment destination that all citizens are willing to visit repeatedly.
